Just outside Cholet, between town and open countryside, Lac de Ribou is a truly unique facility with its outdoor sports centre. It is a favourite destination for the town’s residents at weekends, or sunny days, to make the most of this area of unspoiled nature on their doorstep.
Tourists will find the ideal location for camping.
An artificial lake with activities ‘au naturel’
- The bar/restaurant Le Bord du Lac offers an unrestricted view over the lake. You can almost able to dip your feet in the water as you eat.
- CISPA (Centre d’Initiation aux Sports de Plein Air - the outdoor sports centre) offers multiple activities on and around the lake: windsurfing, canoeing, mountain biking, archery, climbing...
- There is an equestrian centre on the waterside which offers pony trekking through these spectacular surroundings.
- Several hiking routes weave across the countryside to local sites and landmarks such as L’étang des Noues, Parc de Moine or Lac du Verdon.
- Publicly accessible tennis courts as well as a mini-golf complete the sporting array on offer.
This project has been a great success for the people of Cholet, creating so much added value to the artificial lake. Today it serves as a meeting place for locals and as a tourist destination. Yet more than this; for man and nature, it is a source of life. The site is also home to several endangered plants and animals.

Creation
Named after an ancient water mill, Lac de Ribou is an artificial lake built on the banks of the Moine and Trézon rivers. A dam was constructed in 1958 with the primary role of providing drinking water to the local population. Faced with the growing needs of an expanding population, a second dam was constructed upstream about 20 years later, creating another lake, Lake Verdon.An artificial lake with activities ‘au naturel’
Activities on offer

Destination
There is a huge 4-star campsite that was built on the shores of the lake to welcome tourists and holidaymakers to the region. The site underwent extensive modernisation in 2014 to become a ‘new generation’ holiday destination with modern, fully equipped mobile homes, a new covered swimming pool as well as new slides.This project has been a great success for the people of Cholet, creating so much added value to the artificial lake. Today it serves as a meeting place for locals and as a tourist destination. Yet more than this; for man and nature, it is a source of life.
